Rico Nasty San Antonio Concert reviews
They still love playing
Great stuff. The rest of the band was brilliant, as well, and it was a nice touch putting Warren Haynes up there for a slide guitar part in one song. What surprised me was how good his voice still sounds - both in the quiet passages and during his fitful, emotive outbursts. More of him would have been appreciated. Excellent, tight jams one would expect from a band so accomplished and road-worn. My only peeve, and it's a small one, is that the shred-style guitarist who now tours with them can go a little...abstract for this kind of music. I love his sometimes dissonant, jazzy runs and blistering legatos, and even the Beck-like use of volume knob and trem bar - but it didn't always fit. Rico Nasty and his crew of talented, energetic musicians have now played 8 kazillion shows and recorded only a few albums short of that - and they still look like they love performing together.
